Leather or fabric sofa bed? How to choose the right material for daily life
Choosing between a leather sofa bed and a fabric sofa bed is not only about looks. For everyday use, the material also affects comfort, cleaning and how well the sofa fits life with children or pets.
Neither option is automatically better. The right sofa bed material depends on your home, your preferences and how you plan to use it.
Is leather or fabric easier to clean?
One advantage of leather is that many everyday spills can be wiped from the surface before they soak in. Leather cannot be machine washed, however, and cleaning and care depend on the type and finish of the leather.
Fabric behaves differently. Some spills may soak into the fibres more easily, but removable covers can make a major difference. If the covers can be taken off and machine washed, stains do not necessarily have to become permanent.

Which material is more durable?
Both leather and fabric can be durable, but they wear in different ways.
Good-quality leather can last for years and develop a natural patina, although scratches and marks may remain visible. With fabric, durability depends heavily on the weave and quality of the material.
KHOY’s Eco and Lux fabrics have both been tested to more than 100,000 Martindale cycles, making them suitable for regular everyday use.
What works best with children and pets?
Hair and light dirt can often be wiped easily from leather, while claws may leave visible scratches. With fabric, pet hair may cling to the surface and some woven materials can snag.
For family life, removable and washable covers offer a different kind of practicality. They can be taken off and washed when needed, while replaceable covers mean that wear or damage does not necessarily mean replacing the whole sofa.
Which feels more comfortable?
Fabric usually feels softer and warmer to the touch, while leather has a smoother feel. Which is more comfortable is largely a matter of personal preference.
If you spend a lot of time lounging on your sofa bed, consider how you want the material to feel as well as how it looks.
How do leather and fabric affect the look of a room?
Leather often gives a room a classic, more defined look.
Fabric offers more variation in texture and color and often creates a softer overall feel. A grey sofa bed, for example, can work easily in a light Scandinavian-style interior while a textured fabric can add warmth and depth.
Why does KHOY use fabric?
KHOY currently offers its sofa beds in two fabric options, Eco and Lux. It does not offer a leather version.
Eco is made from 100% recycled polyester and has a smooth woven finish. Lux has a more textured, bouclé-inspired appearance. Both have removable, machine-washable covers, and replacement covers are available if you want to refresh the sofa later.
The same fabric options are available across KHOY Single, KHOY Double, KHOY Queen and KHOY King.
A leather sofa bed can be a good choice if you like its look and wipe-clean surface. For everyday family use, however, a fabric sofa bed with durable, removable and washable covers offers a practical alternative that is easy to live with.
